Narrative:
I was on a road trip. Aircraft was grounded for a hydraulic leak. After we repaired aircraft it was towed to the gate and we turned it over to the flight crew. Approximately 30 mins later; we were called back to the gate. The plane was full of passenger and the flight crew told us there was only 500 psi on the crew oxygen. Called maintenance control and they said to rob the oxygen bottle from aircraft Y. Told them he didn't think we could use a -700 oxygen bottle on a -300. They said yes we could. When I was filling out the logbook; I called maintenance control. I asked if they were sure we could use a -700 bottle in a -300. They said yes. I asked again and told them this was a graphite bottle. They said yes we could and that the bottles had the same part numbers. We robbed the bottle and installed it on aircraft X. We had no access to parts catalog and effectivity computer program.

Title: A B737-300 WAS FOUND WITH 500 PSI ON CREW OXYGEN. ROBBED B737-700 CREW OXYGEN BOTTLE AND INSTALLED IN B737-300 ON DELAY. TECHNICIANS NOT SURE OF EFFECTIVITY.
Narrative: I WAS ON A ROAD TRIP. ACFT WAS GNDED FOR A HYD LEAK. AFTER WE REPAIRED ACFT IT WAS TOWED TO THE GATE AND WE TURNED IT OVER TO THE FLT CREW. APPROX 30 MINS LATER; WE WERE CALLED BACK TO THE GATE. THE PLANE WAS FULL OF PAX AND THE FLT CREW TOLD US THERE WAS ONLY 500 PSI ON THE CREW OXYGEN. CALLED MAINT CTL AND THEY SAID TO ROB THE OXYGEN BOTTLE FROM ACFT Y. TOLD THEM HE DIDN'T THINK WE COULD USE A -700 OXYGEN BOTTLE ON A -300. THEY SAID YES WE COULD. WHEN I WAS FILLING OUT THE LOGBOOK; I CALLED MAINT CTL. WE ROBBED THE BOTTLE AND INSTALLED IT ON ACFT X. WE HAD NO ACCESS TO PARTS CATALOG AND EFFECTIVITY COMPUTER PROGRAM.
