Narrative:
I was assigned to lubricate the landing gear and I proceeded to do that task. Before being able to lubricate a fitting; under both main landing gear there is a panel on left and right main landing gear that have to be open to get to the fitting for lubrication. That particular panel has a nut-plate behind that attaches screws to the panel. Each panel has 4 screws that come out to allow access to the fitting. Removing the screws for the panel to hang down; I then lubricated the fitting for both l- and r-hand main landing gear. After lubricating the fitting; I then placed both left and right side panels with appropriate nut plates and screwed the 4 screws on both panels and nut plates back into their respective locations and drilled the screws with the nut plates back in and closed the panels. When I returned to work; I was told that the panel was open and the nut plate was gone. I found that to be hard to believe because if that panel is not screwed in with the nut plate; it can't close -- and the panels were closed. I'm very familiar with that nut plate and panel and I didn't write a non routine work card because that panel is not removed but just opened and there is nowhere on the lubricate work card that states write that panel up when you open it for lubrication; and I hadn't seen anyone else write that up since I've been working on the phases here.

Title: AN EMB140 DURING A PHASE CHK 2 MAIN LNDG GEAR ACCESS PANELS WERE REMOVED TO ACCESS LUBE FITTING. ONE PANEL WAS FOUND OPEN AND NUT PLATE MISSING.
Narrative: I WAS ASSIGNED TO LUBRICATE THE LNDG GEAR AND I PROCEEDED TO DO THAT TASK. REMOVING THE SCREWS FOR THE PANEL TO HANG DOWN; I THEN LUBRICATED THE FITTING FOR BOTH L- AND R-HAND MAIN LNDG GEAR. AFTER LUBRICATING THE FITTING; I THEN PLACED BOTH L AND R SIDE PANELS WITH APPROPRIATE NUT PLATES AND SCREWED THE 4 SCREWS ON BOTH PANELS AND NUT PLATES BACK INTO THEIR RESPECTIVE LOCATIONS AND DRILLED THE SCREWS WITH THE NUT PLATES BACK IN AND CLOSED THE PANELS.
