Narrative:
Crj was cleared for takeoff runway 5 while thunderstorm was over airport. B712 was told to taxi to runway 5. B712 was observed on proper taxi route prior to left turn on taxiway a to runway 5. I looked at WX on radar to assess thunderstorm; then crj said was aborting takeoff. I then observed B712 had missed left turn and had stopped just short of runway 5; which was why crj aborted. B712 pilot seemed confused (possibly distraction by WX) and replied he was told to taxi to runway 5. I told pilot he missed turn and runway 5 was off to his left.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BUF LCL CTLR DESCRIBED ABORTED TKOF BY CARJ AS DEP ACFT MISSED TURN TO ASSIGNED TAXI RTE AND APCHED DEP RWY.
Narrative: CRJ WAS CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 5 WHILE TSTM WAS OVER ARPT. B712 WAS TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 5. B712 WAS OBSERVED ON PROPER TAXI RTE PRIOR TO L TURN ON TXWY A TO RWY 5. I LOOKED AT WX ON RADAR TO ASSESS TSTM; THEN CRJ SAID WAS ABORTING TKOF. I THEN OBSERVED B712 HAD MISSED L TURN AND HAD STOPPED JUST SHORT OF RWY 5; WHICH WAS WHY CRJ ABORTED. B712 PLT SEEMED CONFUSED (POSSIBLY DISTR BY WX) AND REPLIED HE WAS TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 5. I TOLD PLT HE MISSED TURN AND RWY 5 WAS OFF TO HIS L.
