Narrative:
Flight crew squawked horizontal stabilized pitch trim paint marks on tail. At neutral pitch trim; leading edge of horizontal stabilizer did not line up exactly with neutral paint mark on vertical fin. Ran pitch trim to mechanical stops full nose up and nose down; those paint marks lined up. Put high lift truck at tail and viewed neutral up on the stabilizer; leading edge at upper edge of mark. A planning item was generated to repaint the mark. These marks have nothing to do with the rig of the airplane. Maintenance manual installation procedure for paint mark says; 'position stabilizer to neutral position (0 units trim) and paint; if required; index marks on vertical fin to align with mark on stabilizer leading edge.'
