Narrative:
I failed to disarm door 1R on a B737. Someone could have been killed or maimed for life. This thought is so devastating to me. Fortunately; the purser found the door armed and disarmed it. I truly thank him for his great work. These B737's have no armed indicator on the outside of the aircraft nor in the cockpit. They are very dangerous to anyone trying to enter the aircraft from the outside. Everyone needs to understand how important it is to disarm; crack; and xchk. And sweeping is also very important. Although I would not want anyone to be held responsible for my actions; I do know that; had the slide deployed and someone was hurt; I would have been destroyed. We all know that these doors are not always easy to arm and disarm. They stick and slide out of position and make it difficult to lock into place -- especially when working long hours. We're tired and really need to pay special attention to our responsibilities. We need to xchk; xchk.
