Narrative:
Approach cleared aircraft #1 for a visual approach on a left downwind; then let a C172 (aircraft #2) get too close on a left base. Aircraft #1 had to climb and turn to avoid aircraft #2. When I coordination with approach; he said he thought the lear would 'crank it in there.'

Title: LEX TWR CTLR EXPERIENCED CONFLICT AS TRACON ISSUED VISUAL CLRNC TO LR60 ON DOWNWIND THAT CONFLICTED WITH VFR C172 ON BASE.
Narrative: APCH CLRED ACFT #1 FOR A VISUAL APCH ON A L DOWNWIND; THEN LET A C172 (ACFT #2) GET TOO CLOSE ON A L BASE. ACFT #1 HAD TO CLB AND TURN TO AVOID ACFT #2. WHEN I COORD WITH APCH; HE SAID HE THOUGHT THE LEAR WOULD 'CRANK IT IN THERE.'
