Narrative:
In the morning at XA00; the acting lead technician assigned me to assist a mechanic on aircraft for a lavatory issue. The acting lead technician wanted me to install floor boards as well as clean them due to a lavatory leak. I went to the pick-up truck and noticed the floor panels and trims were on the bed of the pick-up truck. I then started cleaning floor boards and trims. Then I heard something fall on the ground. It was a wire that had broke from the floor proximity light. I notified my lead technician on the issue and wrote up the emergency light. I looked up the light in the ipc. The ipc reference appeared to be puzzling to me. It was not easy to reference the emergency hatch to that exact light until today. Next time; to prevent an issue with installing wrong parts; is to get a second opinion and read the ipc carefully.
