Narrative:
MEL states: if the pumps 1C and 2C are inoperative; the message 'electrical emergency abnormal' must be verified to operate normally before departure. If the intent of the MEL is that this should be checked prior to every departure; then I think that the MEL should state; 'operate normally before each or prior to each departure.' as an example: '...vertical stabilizer prior to each departure.' the wording of MEL needs to be more clear. A pilot could think that this check only needs to be accomplished when he first gets into the aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN EMB145 CAPT RECOMMENDS AN MEL PROC CHANGE ON HYD PUMP DEFERRALS FROM A 'CHK BEFORE DEP' OF THE WARNING SYS TO WORDING 'CHK PRIOR TO EACH DEP.'
Narrative: MEL STATES: IF THE PUMPS 1C AND 2C ARE INOP; THE MESSAGE 'ELECTRICAL EMER ABNORMAL' MUST BE VERIFIED TO OPERATE NORMALLY BEFORE DEP. IF THE INTENT OF THE MEL IS THAT THIS SHOULD BE CHKED PRIOR TO EVERY DEP; THEN I THINK THAT THE MEL SHOULD STATE; 'OPERATE NORMALLY BEFORE EACH OR PRIOR TO EACH DEP.' AS AN EXAMPLE: '...VERT STABILIZER PRIOR TO EACH DEP.' THE WORDING OF MEL NEEDS TO BE MORE CLR. A PLT COULD THINK THAT THIS CHK ONLY NEEDS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED WHEN HE FIRST GETS INTO THE ACFT.
