Narrative:
I was holding short of runway 9 at caracas; venezuela (svmi). It was an intersection departure from intersection east. I was holding at the intersection for approximately 40 mins when maiquetia tower said 'air taxi X.' I replied 'go ahead.' I thought tower had said 'line up and wait in front of the MD80 on runway 9.' I replied 'line up and wait in front of the MD80 air taxi X.' the tower paused and said 'affirmative.' as I was speaking to the tower; I glanced over at the MD80 and it did not appear to be moving so I began my flow and started taxiing out on runway 9 at intersection east. I lined up and found out that I had taxied in front of the MD80 on his departure roll. The aircraft stopped between 200-150 ft behind me. The factors that I feel contributed to this were: 1) all communications that were going on were in spanish. 2) I had a cold and was not feeling good. 3) I ignored the feeling in my gut that something was amiss. 4) the only english was between myself and the tower.

Title: A BE1900 PLT TAXIED ONTO THE ACTIVE RWY IN FRONT OF A DEPARTING MD80 WHEN HE MISUNDERSTOOD HIS INSTRUCTIONS AT SVMI (CARACAS; VENEZUELA).
Narrative: I WAS HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 9 AT CARACAS; VENEZUELA (SVMI). IT WAS AN INTXN DEP FROM INTXN E. I WAS HOLDING AT THE INTXN FOR APPROX 40 MINS WHEN MAIQUETIA TWR SAID 'AIR TAXI X.' I REPLIED 'GO AHEAD.' I THOUGHT TWR HAD SAID 'LINE UP AND WAIT IN FRONT OF THE MD80 ON RWY 9.' I REPLIED 'LINE UP AND WAIT IN FRONT OF THE MD80 AIR TAXI X.' THE TWR PAUSED AND SAID 'AFFIRMATIVE.' AS I WAS SPEAKING TO THE TWR; I GLANCED OVER AT THE MD80 AND IT DID NOT APPEAR TO BE MOVING SO I BEGAN MY FLOW AND STARTED TAXIING OUT ON RWY 9 AT INTXN E. I LINED UP AND FOUND OUT THAT I HAD TAXIED IN FRONT OF THE MD80 ON HIS DEP ROLL. THE ACFT STOPPED BTWN 200-150 FT BEHIND ME. THE FACTORS THAT I FEEL CONTRIBUTED TO THIS WERE: 1) ALL COMS THAT WERE GOING ON WERE IN SPANISH. 2) I HAD A COLD AND WAS NOT FEELING GOOD. 3) I IGNORED THE FEELING IN MY GUT THAT SOMETHING WAS AMISS. 4) THE ONLY ENGLISH WAS BTWN MYSELF AND THE TWR.
