Narrative:
Originally out of dfw we were given an RNAV departure off of runway 18L. On taxi this was changed to runway 17R. I changed the departure runway on this SID in the FMS. Upon reaching the point where the transition began; the aircraft did not join the transition and turned toward the point on our flight plan after the transition point. We caught the problem and after ATC queried us; we reprogrammed the FMS and continued on. I am not sure if the FMS malfunctioned or I erred in programming it. I will be even more diligent in checking the FMS in the future. I am filing this report on behalf of myself and my copilot.
