Narrative:
We are flying the aztec. After completing an ILS 8 approach and landing at fxe; tower requested right turnoff on runway 13 for taxi to the FBO. A high rollout speed caused the aztec to continue past the requested turnoff. The tower controller then cleared another aircraft to land on runway 8. We reported that the aztec was still on runway 8. The tower then cleared a different aircraft to take off from runway 8. We again reported that the aztec was on runway 8 (with greater urgency). There was no immediate reply from the controller. We again reported that the aztec was on runway 8. The tower controller only then said that he told us to turn right onto runway 13 and that now we should continue to the end and turn right on taxiway C. The clearance to take off was never rescinded. A secondary factor in the missed turnoff is a lack of lighting (sign or runway lights) for the non-active runway.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF PA27 LNDG RWY 8 AT FXE WAS UNABLE TO CLR ON RWY 13 AS PER ATC.
Narrative: WE ARE FLYING THE AZTEC. AFTER COMPLETING AN ILS 8 APCH AND LNDG AT FXE; TWR REQUESTED R TURNOFF ON RWY 13 FOR TAXI TO THE FBO. A HIGH ROLLOUT SPD CAUSED THE AZTEC TO CONTINUE PAST THE REQUESTED TURNOFF. THE TWR CTLR THEN CLRED ANOTHER ACFT TO LAND ON RWY 8. WE RPTED THAT THE AZTEC WAS STILL ON RWY 8. THE TWR THEN CLRED A DIFFERENT ACFT TO TAKE OFF FROM RWY 8. WE AGAIN RPTED THAT THE AZTEC WAS ON RWY 8 (WITH GREATER URGENCY). THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE REPLY FROM THE CTLR. WE AGAIN RPTED THAT THE AZTEC WAS ON RWY 8. THE TWR CTLR ONLY THEN SAID THAT HE TOLD US TO TURN R ONTO RWY 13 AND THAT NOW WE SHOULD CONTINUE TO THE END AND TURN R ON TXWY C. THE CLRNC TO TAKE OFF WAS NEVER RESCINDED. A SECONDARY FACTOR IN THE MISSED TURNOFF IS A LACK OF LIGHTING (SIGN OR RWY LIGHTS) FOR THE NON-ACTIVE RWY.
