Narrative:
Aircraft XXXX was brought over from remote parking to replace an aircraft that had a door seal problem; last min. We called and asked how long it had been in remote and why. We were told that it was a spare that had been flown up from ZZZ1. I (captain) took a look at the maintenance log and saw nothing that indicated the need for a flight check. There was a maintenance entry prior to the flight from ZZZ1; but it only indicated that maintenance had been performed but failed to specify what had been done. At approximately XA15; I (captain) received a call from scheduling to inform us that we would need to report early and perform a flight check. I called maintenance control and they told me that the rudder had been replaced and that the aircraft was supposed to have had a flight check on the way up to ZZZ but that it had not. We performed the maintenance flight and write-up then picked up the passenger and flew to ZZZ.
