Narrative:

In preparation for an XA00 departure from lax; a professional flight planning service was used to file. We had a paper copy of the flight plan and the same 'uplinked' copy in the FMS. Unknown to us; both flight plans contained the same SID that did not apply to that departure time. When the pre departure clearance arrived; it contained 2 departures in the main body of the pre departure clearance; the appropriate one and the filed one. We saw and flew the filed SID which resulted in some confusion with ATC when we were cleared direct seal beach. Socal ATC was helpful with providing us with the frequency and getting us on our way. To prevent a recurrence; I would suggest that when a pre departure clearance is issued only what is to be flown is to be found in the text. If we had gotten the clearance over the radio; clearance delivery would have read only the correct SID (laxx 5 dagget then as filed) and would not have told us what was filed (loop 4 dag). There is no reason to put the 'filed flight plan' in a clearance. One more link in the chain! We are efb equipped. The SID was 'blown up' or enlarged so the text could be read clearly. When it was enlarged the note stating the time of use for the SID was no longer on the screen. Supplemental information from acn 687889: after reviewing the departure en route; we noticed a couple things that were not as apparent when we received clearance through pre departure clearance. The pre departure clearance format was confusing and not real clear as to what the actual departure was going to be both pilots came up with the same conclusion from reading pre departure clearance; the departure was the loop 4. Also; efb viewing format can leave out valuable information; such as the loop 4 is only in effect during certain hours. To view the necessary routing; sometimes the page formats to exclude written notes; etc. I will print out departures in the future; so as to be able to read any notes that may be valuable: like the hours it is conducted.

Title: A CL60 CREW MISREAD A REVISED PDC FOR AN EARLY MORNING LAX SID AND FLEW AN INCORRECT SID FOR THE TIME OF DAY.

Narrative: IN PREPARATION FOR AN XA00 DEP FROM LAX; A PROFESSIONAL FLT PLANNING SVC WAS USED TO FILE. WE HAD A PAPER COPY OF THE FLT PLAN AND THE SAME 'UPLINKED' COPY IN THE FMS. UNKNOWN TO US; BOTH FLT PLANS CONTAINED THE SAME SID THAT DID NOT APPLY TO THAT DEP TIME. WHEN THE PDC ARRIVED; IT CONTAINED 2 DEPS IN THE MAIN BODY OF THE PDC; THE APPROPRIATE ONE AND THE FILED ONE. WE SAW AND FLEW THE FILED SID WHICH RESULTED IN SOME CONFUSION WITH ATC WHEN WE WERE CLRED DIRECT SEAL BEACH. SOCAL ATC WAS HELPFUL WITH PROVIDING US WITH THE FREQ AND GETTING US ON OUR WAY. TO PREVENT A RECURRENCE; I WOULD SUGGEST THAT WHEN A PDC IS ISSUED ONLY WHAT IS TO BE FLOWN IS TO BE FOUND IN THE TEXT. IF WE HAD GOTTEN THE CLRNC OVER THE RADIO; CLRNC DELIVERY WOULD HAVE READ ONLY THE CORRECT SID (LAXX 5 DAGGET THEN AS FILED) AND WOULD NOT HAVE TOLD US WHAT WAS FILED (LOOP 4 DAG). THERE IS NO REASON TO PUT THE 'FILED FLT PLAN' IN A CLRNC. ONE MORE LINK IN THE CHAIN! WE ARE EFB EQUIPPED. THE SID WAS 'BLOWN UP' OR ENLARGED SO THE TEXT COULD BE READ CLRLY. WHEN IT WAS ENLARGED THE NOTE STATING THE TIME OF USE FOR THE SID WAS NO LONGER ON THE SCREEN. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 687889: AFTER REVIEWING THE DEP ENRTE; WE NOTICED A COUPLE THINGS THAT WERE NOT AS APPARENT WHEN WE RECEIVED CLRNC THROUGH PDC. THE PDC FORMAT WAS CONFUSING AND NOT REAL CLEAR AS TO WHAT THE ACTUAL DEP WAS GOING TO BE BOTH PLTS CAME UP WITH THE SAME CONCLUSION FROM READING PDC; THE DEP WAS THE LOOP 4. ALSO; EFB VIEWING FORMAT CAN LEAVE OUT VALUABLE INFO; SUCH AS THE LOOP 4 IS ONLY IN EFFECT DURING CERTAIN HRS. TO VIEW THE NECESSARY ROUTING; SOMETIMES THE PAGE FORMATS TO EXCLUDE WRITTEN NOTES; ETC. I WILL PRINT OUT DEPS IN THE FUTURE; SO AS TO BE ABLE TO READ ANY NOTES THAT MAY BE VALUABLE: LIKE THE HRS IT IS CONDUCTED.
