Narrative:
After landing in light to moderate rain; the first officer and I heard a commotion from the passenger as if something frightening was happening. The first officer looked out to the right side of the aircraft and yelled to stop immediately. A white fuel truck was driving 2 ft next to us nestled up between the right forward catering door and the right wing. We came to a stop and the fuel truck turned right and proceeded into an adjacent gate area between gates 38 and 39. We advised ground control of the near miss and they advised the airport manager and security would be on their way to interview the fuel truck driver. I advised the company and maintenance of the situation and entered in the logbook a request for a full aircraft inspection to the entire r-hand side of the aircraft. The fuel truck approached from our right and from slightly behind and could not be seen approaching.
