Narrative:
During cruise at FL410; I noticed the left oil temperature was in the amber band and oil quantity indicator was reading 'zero.' I immediately referenced QRH and while running the checklist for high oil temperature; I noticed the oil temperature indicator had now turned red. The QRH then directed us to reference the engine failure or shutdown checklist. While running the oil temperature checklist we had retarded the throttle all the way to idle which had no noticeable effect on the oil temperature. We then shut down the left engine in accordance with the engine failure or shutdown checklist. We had just passed ZZZ and decided to divert there. We requested an immediate descent with center and vectors for a diversion to ZZZ. We notified our company via ACARS and made an uneventful descent and landing into ZZZ.

I IMMEDIATELY REFED QRH AND WHILE RUNNING THE CHKLIST FOR HIGH OIL TEMP; I NOTICED THE OIL TEMP INDICATOR HAD NOW TURNED RED. THE QRH THEN DIRECTED US TO REF THE ENG FAILURE OR SHUTDOWN CHKLIST. WE THEN SHUT DOWN THE L ENG IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ENG FAILURE OR SHUTDOWN CHKLIST. WE HAD JUST PASSED ZZZ AND DECIDED TO DIVERT THERE. WE REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT WITH CTR AND VECTORS FOR A DIVERSION TO ZZZ. WE NOTIFIED OUR COMPANY VIA ACARS AND MADE AN UNEVENTFUL DSCNT AND LNDG INTO ZZZ.
