Narrative:
During takeoff; upon application of takeoff N1; the master caution illuminated along with the fuel indication on the left 6 pack. The throttles were immediately retarded to idle and a low speed abort was initiated. Master caution and fuel lights went out and would not recall. We examined all engine and fuel indications and discussed possible causes. We felt it was likely a fuel filter bypass since the wing tanks were nearly full and center was empty; so there was no reason for a nuisance 'low pressure light' we agreed to taxi out after running all checklists and do a static runup to see if the problem reappears. All indications were normal. Upon application of takeoff power master caution reappeared and this time we all saw the fuel filter bypass light. Another low speed abort was accomplished and we cleared the runway to contact dispatch and maintenance. At that time we returned to the gate for investigation by maintenance.

Title: B737-500 FLT CREW ABORTS TKOF TWICE FOR THE SAME MASTER CAUTION; FUEL FILTER BYPASS; RETURN TO GATE.
Narrative: DURING TKOF; UPON APPLICATION OF TKOF N1; THE MASTER CAUTION ILLUMINATED ALONG WITH THE FUEL INDICATION ON THE L 6 PACK. THE THROTTLES WERE IMMEDIATELY RETARDED TO IDLE AND A LOW SPD ABORT WAS INITIATED. MASTER CAUTION AND FUEL LIGHTS WENT OUT AND WOULD NOT RECALL. WE EXAMINED ALL ENG AND FUEL INDICATIONS AND DISCUSSED POSSIBLE CAUSES. WE FELT IT WAS LIKELY A FUEL FILTER BYPASS SINCE THE WING TANKS WERE NEARLY FULL AND CTR WAS EMPTY; SO THERE WAS NO REASON FOR A NUISANCE 'LOW PRESSURE LIGHT' WE AGREED TO TAXI OUT AFTER RUNNING ALL CHKLISTS AND DO A STATIC RUNUP TO SEE IF THE PROB REAPPEARS. ALL INDICATIONS WERE NORMAL. UPON APPLICATION OF TKOF PWR MASTER CAUTION REAPPEARED AND THIS TIME WE ALL SAW THE FUEL FILTER BYPASS LIGHT. ANOTHER LOW SPD ABORT WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND WE CLRED THE RWY TO CONTACT DISPATCH AND MAINT. AT THAT TIME WE RETURNED TO THE GATE FOR INVESTIGATION BY MAINT.
