Narrative:

While working live flts on mar/sun/06; I was called out to aircraft X with a lavatory door problem. Upon arrival to the gate; the pilot informed me of an inoperative lavatory in the right aft portion of the aircraft. The aircraft was loaded; and after examining the door I found the bottom hinge pin was sheared. I informed the pilot of the situation and he let me know that he didn't want to take the aircraft with the lavatory inoperative. I then headed back to the line room to advise my duty manager of the situation. There was a call made to the hangar front desk. They informed my duty manager of an aircraft in the hangar which we could rob the lavatory door from. I was then told to go the hangar find aircraft Y and get the door. When I arrived at the hangar; the door was already removed and the lead for aircraft Y had it ready to go. I returned to the line with the robbed door and installed it. It appeared to operate normally. I signed the logbook and the flight left. I returned the inoperative door to the hangar front desk. When I returned back to work on mar/sat/06; I was informed by my duty manager that the door installed on aircraft X had the wrong effectivity. There were no operational problems reported concerning the lavatory door. The shop which worked the inoperative door; caught the problem. In the future I will be sure to check the effectivity of a part prior to installation and not to rely on anyone else to make the determination for me. Usually this is the course of action I take. However; with the aircraft loaded and on delay; contributed to the lapse of attention to detail on my behalf.

Title: A B737 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT LAVATORY DOOR INSTALLED. REPLACEMENT DOOR ROBBED FROM HANGAR ACFT TO AVOID TRIP CANCELLATION.

Narrative: WHILE WORKING LIVE FLTS ON MAR/SUN/06; I WAS CALLED OUT TO ACFT X WITH A LAVATORY DOOR PROB. UPON ARR TO THE GATE; THE PLT INFORMED ME OF AN INOP LAVATORY IN THE R AFT PORTION OF THE ACFT. THE ACFT WAS LOADED; AND AFTER EXAMINING THE DOOR I FOUND THE BOTTOM HINGE PIN WAS SHEARED. I INFORMED THE PLT OF THE SITUATION AND HE LET ME KNOW THAT HE DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE THE ACFT WITH THE LAVATORY INOP. I THEN HEADED BACK TO THE LINE ROOM TO ADVISE MY DUTY MGR OF THE SITUATION. THERE WAS A CALL MADE TO THE HANGAR FRONT DESK. THEY INFORMED MY DUTY MGR OF AN ACFT IN THE HANGAR WHICH WE COULD ROB THE LAVATORY DOOR FROM. I WAS THEN TOLD TO GO THE HANGAR FIND ACFT Y AND GET THE DOOR. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE HANGAR; THE DOOR WAS ALREADY REMOVED AND THE LEAD FOR ACFT Y HAD IT READY TO GO. I RETURNED TO THE LINE WITH THE ROBBED DOOR AND INSTALLED IT. IT APPEARED TO OPERATE NORMALLY. I SIGNED THE LOGBOOK AND THE FLT LEFT. I RETURNED THE INOP DOOR TO THE HANGAR FRONT DESK. WHEN I RETURNED BACK TO WORK ON MAR/SAT/06; I WAS INFORMED BY MY DUTY MGR THAT THE DOOR INSTALLED ON ACFT X HAD THE WRONG EFFECTIVITY. THERE WERE NO OPERATIONAL PROBS RPTED CONCERNING THE LAVATORY DOOR. THE SHOP WHICH WORKED THE INOP DOOR; CAUGHT THE PROB. IN THE FUTURE I WILL BE SURE TO CHK THE EFFECTIVITY OF A PART PRIOR TO INSTALLATION AND NOT TO RELY ON ANYONE ELSE TO MAKE THE DETERMINATION FOR ME. USUALLY THIS IS THE COURSE OF ACTION I TAKE. HOWEVER; WITH THE ACFT LOADED AND ON DELAY; CONTRIBUTED TO THE LAPSE OF ATTN TO DETAIL ON MY BEHALF.
