Narrative:
Landed runway 35L den. While approaching intersection M7; tower told us to exit intersection M7 and contact ground. Because of past hot brakes reports and company guidelines to use minimum braking in den; captain was letting aircraft roll out gradually and we were still doing 100-120 KTS. When we heard directive; captain immediately applied brakes and said; 'microphone 7?' I said; 'yeah; right there. You gonna make it?' he paused; then let up on brakes and said something to the extent of 'no way.' I then said 'there's no way we could make that!' I had just finished saying that when tower told air carrier X (?) to go around. I maintained my normal 80 KTS and 60 KTS call and was going to query tower as we were turning off at next intersection; but he was busy giving directives to other aircraft and had originally told us to contact ground after clearing; so I went to ground frequency. After then being turned over to ramp control; we were told to call the tower. Captain called tower and then wanted to know why we didn't make M7. Captain told him we were too fast. He then said we must comply with his directives and wanted to know why we didn't say anything. Captain said we were doing approximately 120 KTS when we got directive and stopping aircraft was the first priority. Captain said controller was very upset and was going to file a deviation because we didn't comply and didn't say anything. The controller was obviously upset because the aircraft behind us had to go around; but if tower had told us before we landed; or even way before the intersection; there would not have been a problem. I think he assumed we were planning to exit M7. We routinely help out ATC as much as possible; with requests ahead of time. Instead he wanted us to not only make M7 while doing approximately 120 KTS; but also communicate with him instead of flying the aircraft.

Title: A319 FLT CREW DURING LNDG ROLL IS REQUESTED TO TURN OFF AT M7 HIGH SPD TXWY AT DEN. FLT CREW WAS UNABLE AND ATC REVIEWED THE CLRNC WITH THE FLT CREW.
Narrative: LANDED RWY 35L DEN. WHILE APCHING INTXN M7; TWR TOLD US TO EXIT INTXN M7 AND CONTACT GND. BECAUSE OF PAST HOT BRAKES RPTS AND COMPANY GUIDELINES TO USE MINIMUM BRAKING IN DEN; CAPT WAS LETTING ACFT ROLL OUT GRADUALLY AND WE WERE STILL DOING 100-120 KTS. WHEN WE HEARD DIRECTIVE; CAPT IMMEDIATELY APPLIED BRAKES AND SAID; 'MIKE 7?' I SAID; 'YEAH; RIGHT THERE. YOU GONNA MAKE IT?' HE PAUSED; THEN LET UP ON BRAKES AND SAID SOMETHING TO THE EXTENT OF 'NO WAY.' I THEN SAID 'THERE'S NO WAY WE COULD MAKE THAT!' I HAD JUST FINISHED SAYING THAT WHEN TWR TOLD ACR X (?) TO GO AROUND. I MAINTAINED MY NORMAL 80 KTS AND 60 KTS CALL AND WAS GOING TO QUERY TWR AS WE WERE TURNING OFF AT NEXT INTXN; BUT HE WAS BUSY GIVING DIRECTIVES TO OTHER ACFT AND HAD ORIGINALLY TOLD US TO CONTACT GND AFTER CLRING; SO I WENT TO GND FREQ. AFTER THEN BEING TURNED OVER TO RAMP CTL; WE WERE TOLD TO CALL THE TWR. CAPT CALLED TWR AND THEN WANTED TO KNOW WHY WE DIDN'T MAKE M7. CAPT TOLD HIM WE WERE TOO FAST. HE THEN SAID WE MUST COMPLY WITH HIS DIRECTIVES AND WANTED TO KNOW WHY WE DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING. CAPT SAID WE WERE DOING APPROX 120 KTS WHEN WE GOT DIRECTIVE AND STOPPING ACFT WAS THE FIRST PRIORITY. CAPT SAID CTLR WAS VERY UPSET AND WAS GOING TO FILE A DEV BECAUSE WE DIDN'T COMPLY AND DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING. THE CTLR WAS OBVIOUSLY UPSET BECAUSE THE ACFT BEHIND US HAD TO GO AROUND; BUT IF TWR HAD TOLD US BEFORE WE LANDED; OR EVEN WAY BEFORE THE INTXN; THERE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A PROB. I THINK HE ASSUMED WE WERE PLANNING TO EXIT M7. WE ROUTINELY HELP OUT ATC AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE; WITH REQUESTS AHEAD OF TIME. INSTEAD HE WANTED US TO NOT ONLY MAKE M7 WHILE DOING APPROX 120 KTS; BUT ALSO COMMUNICATE WITH HIM INSTEAD OF FLYING THE ACFT.
