Narrative:
We obtained our IFR clearance via the rco at the airport and then waited for several aircraft to land on the runway. After several mins there was a large enough gap for us to take off. One airplane was announcing his position mid-field on the downwind; while a helicopter announced turning downwind. The helicopter had just performed a landing on the runway. We announced our takeoff on the CTAF and taxied into position. As my student was applying full power for takeoff; the helicopter suddenly appeared directly above us. The helicopter had not made any calls after announcing his entry onto the downwind leg. I called for an 'abort takeoff' and my student brought power back to idle. The helicopter then landed on the runway; and immediately took off again. We waited on the runway for about 1 min before attempting a takeoff in order to allow the rotor wash to settle.

Title: C175 HAS A CONFLICT ON TKOF ROLL WITH AN R44 HELI LNDG IN CLOSE PROX.
Narrative: WE OBTAINED OUR IFR CLRNC VIA THE RCO AT THE ARPT AND THEN WAITED FOR SEVERAL ACFT TO LAND ON THE RWY. AFTER SEVERAL MINS THERE WAS A LARGE ENOUGH GAP FOR US TO TAKE OFF. ONE AIRPLANE WAS ANNOUNCING HIS POS MID-FIELD ON THE DOWNWIND; WHILE A HELI ANNOUNCED TURNING DOWNWIND. THE HELI HAD JUST PERFORMED A LNDG ON THE RWY. WE ANNOUNCED OUR TKOF ON THE CTAF AND TAXIED INTO POS. AS MY STUDENT WAS APPLYING FULL PWR FOR TKOF; THE HELI SUDDENLY APPEARED DIRECTLY ABOVE US. THE HELI HAD NOT MADE ANY CALLS AFTER ANNOUNCING HIS ENTRY ONTO THE DOWNWIND LEG. I CALLED FOR AN 'ABORT TKOF' AND MY STUDENT BROUGHT PWR BACK TO IDLE. THE HELI THEN LANDED ON THE RWY; AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK OFF AGAIN. WE WAITED ON THE RWY FOR ABOUT 1 MIN BEFORE ATTEMPTING A TKOF IN ORDER TO ALLOW THE ROTOR WASH TO SETTLE.
