Narrative:

Payload went up +4.0 or 4000 pounds after push. Load planner did not call dispatcher to inform of this very significant weight increase. I saw the increase before flight departed; called the load planner to ask about the increase. He said it was bags. I emphasized repeatedly to him that we (dispatchers) need timely calls in regards to significant weight increases. I informed the crew on taxi out what occurred. Fortunately; as well they had added 1100 pounds of extra fuel and were agreeable to continue and not return to the gate. I called the load planner back to inform him crew was agreeable to continue and I also emphasized again that we need phone calls when the weight goes up like this; especially after pushback.
