Narrative:
I was trying to use the new paper navigation charts and allowed myself to get distraction between being concerned about an on-time block-out; learning to use the new charts; dealing with the cumbersomeness of the new chart system in the cockpit. The charts seem to add an additional 10 mins minimum to cockpit setup and preflight at this time due to the conditions mentioned above. The revised route amounted to a parallel offset of our original route of about 2-25 mi for about 150-200 mi. ATC queried my routing after I reached mrb and proceeded along the original filed route of direct esl after mrb instead of the route change of J6 hvo after mrb. I acknowledged my error with ATC; apologized and was given direct pxv from that point. No further discussion ensued from ATC on this matter.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A300-600 AIRBUS CREW LOADS INCORRECT RTE CLRNC IN THE FMC AND ERROR IS NOTED BY CTLR; NEW CLRNC ISSUED BY ATC.
Narrative: I WAS TRYING TO USE THE NEW PAPER NAV CHARTS AND ALLOWED MYSELF TO GET DISTR BTWN BEING CONCERNED ABOUT AN ON-TIME BLOCK-OUT; LEARNING TO USE THE NEW CHARTS; DEALING WITH THE CUMBERSOMENESS OF THE NEW CHART SYS IN THE COCKPIT. THE CHARTS SEEM TO ADD AN ADDITIONAL 10 MINS MINIMUM TO COCKPIT SETUP AND PREFLT AT THIS TIME DUE TO THE CONDITIONS MENTIONED ABOVE. THE REVISED RTE AMOUNTED TO A PARALLEL OFFSET OF OUR ORIGINAL RTE OF ABOUT 2-25 MI FOR ABOUT 150-200 MI. ATC QUERIED MY ROUTING AFTER I REACHED MRB AND PROCEEDED ALONG THE ORIGINAL FILED RTE OF DIRECT ESL AFTER MRB INSTEAD OF THE RTE CHANGE OF J6 HVO AFTER MRB. I ACKNOWLEDGED MY ERROR WITH ATC; APOLOGIZED AND WAS GIVEN DIRECT PXV FROM THAT POINT. NO FURTHER DISCUSSION ENSUED FROM ATC ON THIS MATTER.
