Narrative:
Recently; the atlanta TRACON acquired airspace over athens; GA; formerly operated by ZTL. To control the airspace; the TRACON receives a feed from the lincolnton; GA; long range radar. Since we have acquired the radar; we haven't had WX processing capability. This is a very dangerous situation; as we could; unknowingly vector aircraft into hazardous WX. I understand that ZTL has a WX display on the controller's scopes that is independent of the lincolnton radar; so repairing the WX processing is not a high priority for their facility. As you know; thunderstorms are a very serious problem in the southeast united states and are capable of rapid movement and escalation. It is very common for pilots to ask for our assistance in avoiding thunderstorms by providing real-time WX and PIREPS. Someone needs to repair the lincolnton WX processing capability before a pilot is accidentally put into a deadly situation.

Title: A80 CTLR EXPRESSED CONCERN REGARDING LACK OF WX INFO ON LONG RANGE RADAR THAT COVERS NEWLY ACQUIRED AIRSPACE.
Narrative: RECENTLY; THE ATLANTA TRACON ACQUIRED AIRSPACE OVER ATHENS; GA; FORMERLY OPERATED BY ZTL. TO CTL THE AIRSPACE; THE TRACON RECEIVES A FEED FROM THE LINCOLNTON; GA; LONG RANGE RADAR. SINCE WE HAVE ACQUIRED THE RADAR; WE HAVEN'T HAD WX PROCESSING CAPABILITY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION; AS WE COULD; UNKNOWINGLY VECTOR ACFT INTO HAZARDOUS WX. I UNDERSTAND THAT ZTL HAS A WX DISPLAY ON THE CTLR'S SCOPES THAT IS INDEPENDENT OF THE LINCOLNTON RADAR; SO REPAIRING THE WX PROCESSING IS NOT A HIGH PRIORITY FOR THEIR FACILITY. AS YOU KNOW; TSTMS ARE A VERY SERIOUS PROB IN THE SE UNITED STATES AND ARE CAPABLE OF RAPID MOVEMENT AND ESCALATION. IT IS VERY COMMON FOR PLTS TO ASK FOR OUR ASSISTANCE IN AVOIDING TSTMS BY PROVIDING REAL-TIME WX AND PIREPS. SOMEONE NEEDS TO REPAIR THE LINCOLNTON WX PROCESSING CAPABILITY BEFORE A PLT IS ACCIDENTALLY PUT INTO A DEADLY SITUATION.
