Narrative:
We were assigned the SOLDO2 RNAV departure with the sqs transition. Standard air carrier procedure dictates the selection of a lateral navigation mode of flight at 400 ft AGL. The selection of LNAV was not initiated until well after 1500 ft. The aircraft rate of climb was in excess of 4000 ft per minute due to our zero passenger and baggage load. As a result of the delayed selection of lateral navigation mode; the aircraft was allowed to drift slightly west of the departure course which resulted in a TA and prompted ATC to question our flight path. By the time ATC questioned our deviation; the aircraft was on a correction course back to the proper departure path; and ATC acknowledged the correction. It is unclear whether or not the TA was due to our deviation or a normal occurrence due to the close parallel departure procedures at dfw. There was no further dialogue between ourselves and dfw regarding the deviation.

Title: B767-300 DEVIATES FROM DEP TRACK ON SOLDO RNAV DEP FROM DFW. FAILED TO ENGAGE IN LATERAL NAV MODE AS REQUIRED.
Narrative: WE WERE ASSIGNED THE SOLDO2 RNAV DEP WITH THE SQS TRANSITION. STANDARD ACR PROC DICTATES THE SELECTION OF A LATERAL NAVIGATION MODE OF FLT AT 400 FT AGL. THE SELECTION OF LNAV WAS NOT INITIATED UNTIL WELL AFTER 1500 FT. THE ACFT RATE OF CLB WAS IN EXCESS OF 4000 FT PER MINUTE DUE TO OUR ZERO PAX AND BAGGAGE LOAD. AS A RESULT OF THE DELAYED SELECTION OF LATERAL NAV MODE; THE ACFT WAS ALLOWED TO DRIFT SLIGHTLY W OF THE DEP COURSE WHICH RESULTED IN A TA AND PROMPTED ATC TO QUESTION OUR FLT PATH. BY THE TIME ATC QUESTIONED OUR DEV; THE ACFT WAS ON A CORRECTION COURSE BACK TO THE PROPER DEP PATH; AND ATC ACKNOWLEDGED THE CORRECTION. IT IS UNCLEAR WHETHER OR NOT THE TA WAS DUE TO OUR DEV OR A NORMAL OCCURRENCE DUE TO THE CLOSE PARALLEL DEP PROCS AT DFW. THERE WAS NO FURTHER DIALOGUE BETWEEN OURSELVES AND DFW REGARDING THE DEV.
