Narrative:
I departed the airport. I flew to the east. At that time I headed toward the road area. I was doing aerial reconnaissance over the land and was not near any people or structures during the portion of my flight that was at 500 ft AGL. At 500 ft AGL and at speeds under 70 mph indicated; I experienced engine trouble and was unable to maintain altitude. At that time I proceeded toward the most suitable landing area and was established in a very shallow rate of descent with 30 degrees of flaps; using what power I had to bring it in as slow as possible. At more than 50 ft off the ground I contacted and flew through power lines that I had overlooked in the forced landing situation. The span of line was approximately 1/4 mi long on relatively flat grazing land and was T'ed off the main line that runs parallel with the road. For this reason there were no power poles and I was unable to see the lines considering my flat approach. After I cleared the lines I remained calm and proceeded to get the aircraft on the ground to the best of my ability.

Title: AVIAT HUSKY A1 PLT HAS ENG DIFFICULTIES; ELECTS OFF FIELD LNDG; STRIKES PWR LINES AND LANDS.
Narrative: I DEPARTED THE ARPT. I FLEW TO THE E. AT THAT TIME I HEADED TOWARD THE ROAD AREA. I WAS DOING AERIAL RECONNAISSANCE OVER THE LAND AND WAS NOT NEAR ANY PEOPLE OR STRUCTURES DURING THE PORTION OF MY FLT THAT WAS AT 500 FT AGL. AT 500 FT AGL AND AT SPDS UNDER 70 MPH INDICATED; I EXPERIENCED ENG TROUBLE AND WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALT. AT THAT TIME I PROCEEDED TOWARD THE MOST SUITABLE LNDG AREA AND WAS ESTABLISHED IN A VERY SHALLOW RATE OF DSCNT WITH 30 DEGS OF FLAPS; USING WHAT PWR I HAD TO BRING IT IN AS SLOW AS POSSIBLE. AT MORE THAN 50 FT OFF THE GND I CONTACTED AND FLEW THROUGH PWR LINES THAT I HAD OVERLOOKED IN THE FORCED LNDG SITUATION. THE SPAN OF LINE WAS APPROX 1/4 MI LONG ON RELATIVELY FLAT GRAZING LAND AND WAS T'ED OFF THE MAIN LINE THAT RUNS PARALLEL WITH THE ROAD. FOR THIS REASON THERE WERE NO PWR POLES AND I WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE LINES CONSIDERING MY FLAT APCH. AFTER I CLRED THE LINES I REMAINED CALM AND PROCEEDED TO GET THE ACFT ON THE GND TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY.
