Narrative:
Taxiing to atl runway 26L got 'spoilers' EICAS message and associated overhead light. Called dispatcher and maintenance control. Directed to pull and reset several circuit breakers. Had normal system indications. Continued with flight. First officer's takeoff at approximately 100 KIAS got 'spoilers' EICAS message. Since I was unsure of the actual position of the spoilers and; therefore; the airworthiness of the aircraft; elected to reject the takeoff; assuming control of the aircraft. I taxied clear of the runway. I and the crew followed standard procedures; completing all normal and QRH checklists. Made all required logbook entries. 1 tire blew during the rejected takeoff. Tire was changed on the taxiway. We continued uneventfully to the gate. There were no injuries to any passenger or crew.
