Narrative:

30 mins into cruise left engine oil strainer clogging light came on. Light went out after running QRH checklist. Light came back on at about 13000 ft while descending into ZZZ. Light would not go out. At 11000 ft in VMC the left engine was shut down as per checklist. At that point we informed approach and asked for the crash fire rescue equipment to meet us. A visual approach was flown with a normal landing. Taxied to gate under own power. I later realized I should have declared an emergency.
