Narrative:
We had aircraft in for overnight maintenance phase 9 inspection. We were unable to comply with maintenance work card due to the tooling being sent to ZZZ for another aircraft that ZZZ was working. I reviewed the gpm and found in section 15-09 page 3 that a sliding block and tracking time deferred maintenance item could be used to defer this component inspection not to exceed the time control on it. I called maintenance control and talked with them. He reviewed the procedures and was under the same understanding after reading section 15-09 that we could issue a tracking time deferred maintenance item for the check to be complied with at or before the original time when due to ensure that the item was not overflown. Also asked me to call mr X and I did. Told me that he had no problems with it if maintenance operations center didn't. The component inspection had 46.4 hours remaining on the requirement.
