Narrative:

Was on an IFR departure in IMC from cdw (essex county); nj. Upon engaging the autoplt on departure I encountered excessive climb rate; excessive turn pressure requiring a lot of muscle force on the stick; and would not top at programmed altitude. I engaged and released the autoplt numerous times with the same negative results when re-engaged. I would enter a climb request of 600 FPM and it would jump to 1600 FPM. On climb out; I was given 040 degrees runway heading to maximum 2000 ft. I did not receive instructions to go to departure from the tower. I checked in myself and told them I was heading 040 degrees and asked about the turn. He cleared me from heading 040 degrees to 175 degrees. I believe I stated right turn to 175 degrees and started turning. He suggested I review the departure procedure. I was given higher altitude and again had a lot of pressure and rapid climb rate with autoplt which overshot by 300-500 ft my altitude target. I was given an intercept radial on a VOR. Because of the control problems with the autoplt I asked for a vector. I thought this would be safer as I was fighting the pressure and climb problems. The controller was good and very helpful and got me on V-1 going south. I thanked him for his help which was very appreciated. The rest of the flight was uneventful as long as I did not engage the autoplt to climb or descend.

Title: CIRRUS SR22 PLT DURING CLB HAS THE AUTOPLT MALFUNCTION AND OVERSHOOTS ASSIGNED ALT.

Narrative: WAS ON AN IFR DEP IN IMC FROM CDW (ESSEX COUNTY); NJ. I ENGAGED AND RELEASED THE AUTOPLT NUMEROUS TIMES WITH THE SAME NEGATIVE RESULTS WHEN RE-ENGAGED. I WOULD ENTER A CLB REQUEST OF 600 FPM AND IT WOULD JUMP TO 1600 FPM. ON CLBOUT; I WAS GIVEN 040 DEGS RWY HDG TO MAX 2000 FT. I DID NOT RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS TO GO TO DEP FROM THE TWR. I CHKED IN MYSELF AND TOLD THEM I WAS HDG 040 DEGS AND ASKED ABOUT THE TURN. HE CLRED ME FROM HDG 040 DEGS TO 175 DEGS. I BELIEVE I STATED R TURN TO 175 DEGS AND STARTED TURNING. HE SUGGESTED I REVIEW THE DEP PROC. THE REST OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL AS LONG AS I DID NOT ENGAGE THE AUTOPLT TO CLB OR DSND.
