Narrative:
On takeoff; 'gear up' the PNF was unable to raise the gear; 'captain; the gear won't come up.' I've just taken off at 604000 pounds; 15 degrees flaps; runway 28R sfo. I've got a lot of airplane here to fly and something is wrong. I ask him to tell tower that we want to go straight out; no 30 degree bank turn for the SID; just runway heading. I can't let myself get involved with the gear problem/distraction; I've got to fly this airplane. We climb out; retract flaps on schedule and at about 2500 ft the PNF is able to retract the gear using the override switch. Subsequently we learn that several sensors have failed and the air/ground switch did not let us operate the gear. We talk to maintenance; the third pilot did this as we climbed out; maintenance and dispatch agreed that we could continue to destination. I am sending this report because I made a decision to not fly the assigned SID; shoreline with its quick turn after liftoff; and told the tower that I needed to fly runway heading. Sfo tower was very understanding.

Title: A B777-200 AT SFO DEVIATED FROM THE SID BECAUSE THE LNDG GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT AND THE CAPT ELECTED TO CLB STRAIGHT OUT WHILE WORKING THE PROB.
Narrative: ON TKOF; 'GEAR UP' THE PNF WAS UNABLE TO RAISE THE GEAR; 'CAPT; THE GEAR WON'T COME UP.' I'VE JUST TAKEN OFF AT 604000 LBS; 15 DEGS FLAPS; RWY 28R SFO. I'VE GOT A LOT OF AIRPLANE HERE TO FLY AND SOMETHING IS WRONG. I ASK HIM TO TELL TWR THAT WE WANT TO GO STRAIGHT OUT; NO 30 DEG BANK TURN FOR THE SID; JUST RWY HDG. I CAN'T LET MYSELF GET INVOLVED WITH THE GEAR PROB/DISTR; I'VE GOT TO FLY THIS AIRPLANE. WE CLB OUT; RETRACT FLAPS ON SCHEDULE AND AT ABOUT 2500 FT THE PNF IS ABLE TO RETRACT THE GEAR USING THE OVERRIDE SWITCH. SUBSEQUENTLY WE LEARN THAT SEVERAL SENSORS HAVE FAILED AND THE AIR/GND SWITCH DID NOT LET US OPERATE THE GEAR. WE TALK TO MAINT; THE THIRD PLT DID THIS AS WE CLBED OUT; MAINT AND DISPATCH AGREED THAT WE COULD CONTINUE TO DEST. I AM SENDING THIS RPT BECAUSE I MADE A DECISION TO NOT FLY THE ASSIGNED SID; SHORELINE WITH ITS QUICK TURN AFTER LIFTOFF; AND TOLD THE TWR THAT I NEEDED TO FLY RWY HDG. SFO TWR WAS VERY UNDERSTANDING.
