Narrative:
All 4 hydraulic demand pump fault lights illuminated dimly; but would not illuminate bright. Notified maintenance via vox and ACARS. Station maintenance said would defer -- ok with crew. Had problems with release verification numbers with both release and maintenance document numbers matching ACARS. We did not leave gate until we had all maintenance docs. Scanned the maintenance doc and it looked ok under our rush to make scheduled departure time. In-flight; looked at it closer and had concerns the items deferred were not described completely and accurately. Contacted maintenance control via sat vox and discussed. It appears deferral was not correct and perhaps not been deferrable due to 2 pumps in the same system having a problem. System operated normally. It appeared it was a warning light intensity problem. Contributing to the rushed feeling was a 'friendly' company note from the chief pilot stating the importance of our time-critical flight and please do what we can to get out on time. Even though I know what is really right; subtle pressure has its way.
