Narrative:
Inbound to N14 from N87; winds light at N87 I called for the active runway on CTAF at 10 mi and at 5 mi. No reply either time. I continued on and announced a right downwind for runway 1. Again no reply. Going downwind I saw an airplane approaching in the opposite direction. I made an immediate right turn then circled around to the left following a second airplane going downwind for runway 19. When I was about midfield for landing runway 19 someone belatedly came on the frequency and said the active runway was runway 19. If I use N14 again I shall confirm the wind direction; however light; by using the ASOS frequency at nearby vay; and by circling to observe the N14 windsock; in addition to calling for the active runway as usual.

Title: A C172 PLT AT CTAF N14 RPTS A NEAR MISS WITH ANOTHER C172.
Narrative: INBOUND TO N14 FROM N87; WINDS LIGHT AT N87 I CALLED FOR THE ACTIVE RWY ON CTAF AT 10 MI AND AT 5 MI. NO REPLY EITHER TIME. I CONTINUED ON AND ANNOUNCED A R DOWNWIND FOR RWY 1. AGAIN NO REPLY. GOING DOWNWIND I SAW AN AIRPLANE APCHING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I MADE AN IMMEDIATE R TURN THEN CIRCLED AROUND TO THE L FOLLOWING A SECOND AIRPLANE GOING DOWNWIND FOR RWY 19. WHEN I WAS ABOUT MIDFIELD FOR LNDG RWY 19 SOMEONE BELATEDLY CAME ON THE FREQ AND SAID THE ACTIVE RWY WAS RWY 19. IF I USE N14 AGAIN I SHALL CONFIRM THE WIND DIRECTION; HOWEVER LIGHT; BY USING THE ASOS FREQ AT NEARBY VAY; AND BY CIRCLING TO OBSERVE THE N14 WINDSOCK; IN ADDITION TO CALLING FOR THE ACTIVE RWY AS USUAL.
