Narrative:
On takeoff from jfk; we were assigned the kennedy 9 with canarsie climb. I had briefed the procedure with the first officer; but failed to mention the outbound radial after reaching the VOR. We took off on runway 31L in green data with the VOR tuned to cri and the DME held on the jfk VOR to meet the 4.5 mi restr. After 400 ft AGL; I started the turn towards canarsie. As we crossed the VOR on a course of about 240 degrees; I changed the DME to cri and was about to make my sbound turn when the first officer asked what radial we were supposed to track outbound and at about the same time; departure control told us to turn to 060 degrees and asked; 'what departure are you flying?' because of these interruptions; I missed both the courtesy '1000 ft to go' call and the altitude alerter. As we made the turn to 060 degrees; the first officer noted that I was climbing through 5500 ft; when we were assigned 5000 ft. I made an immediate leveloff in an attempt to return to 5000 ft. However; at this time; ATC told us to climb to 7000 ft and called traffic in the area. I climbed to 7000 ft as instructed. Supplemental information from acn 702213: the takeoff and initial turn to canarsie went as planned; however; the turn to intercept the 176 degree radial outbound was late. New york questioned the departure climb we were given; and instructed us to fly a heading of 060 degrees. With the distraction of the climb out and departure procedures we leveled off 500 ft high and were given a higher altitude of 7000 ft.

Title: CRJ-200 FLT CREW HAS ALT HDG DEV DURING THE KENNEDY 9 DEP.
Narrative: ON TKOF FROM JFK; WE WERE ASSIGNED THE KENNEDY 9 WITH CANARSIE CLB. I HAD BRIEFED THE PROC WITH THE FO; BUT FAILED TO MENTION THE OUTBOUND RADIAL AFTER REACHING THE VOR. WE TOOK OFF ON RWY 31L IN GREEN DATA WITH THE VOR TUNED TO CRI AND THE DME HELD ON THE JFK VOR TO MEET THE 4.5 MI RESTR. AFTER 400 FT AGL; I STARTED THE TURN TOWARDS CANARSIE. AS WE CROSSED THE VOR ON A COURSE OF ABOUT 240 DEGS; I CHANGED THE DME TO CRI AND WAS ABOUT TO MAKE MY SBOUND TURN WHEN THE FO ASKED WHAT RADIAL WE WERE SUPPOSED TO TRACK OUTBOUND AND AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME; DEP CTL TOLD US TO TURN TO 060 DEGS AND ASKED; 'WHAT DEP ARE YOU FLYING?' BECAUSE OF THESE INTERRUPTIONS; I MISSED BOTH THE COURTESY '1000 FT TO GO' CALL AND THE ALT ALERTER. AS WE MADE THE TURN TO 060 DEGS; THE FO NOTED THAT I WAS CLBING THROUGH 5500 FT; WHEN WE WERE ASSIGNED 5000 FT. I MADE AN IMMEDIATE LEVELOFF IN AN ATTEMPT TO RETURN TO 5000 FT. HOWEVER; AT THIS TIME; ATC TOLD US TO CLB TO 7000 FT AND CALLED TFC IN THE AREA. I CLBED TO 7000 FT AS INSTRUCTED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 702213: THE TKOF AND INITIAL TURN TO CANARSIE WENT AS PLANNED; HOWEVER; THE TURN TO INTERCEPT THE 176 DEG RADIAL OUTBOUND WAS LATE. NEW YORK QUESTIONED THE DEP CLB WE WERE GIVEN; AND INSTRUCTED US TO FLY A HDG OF 060 DEGS. WITH THE DISTR OF THE CLBOUT AND DEP PROCS WE LEVELED OFF 500 FT HIGH AND WERE GIVEN A HIGHER ALT OF 7000 FT.
