Narrative:
We departed our ramp position (nearly wbound on the ramp) intending to join taxiway K and locate K3. While anticipating approaching said taxiway K; I noticed the edge markings of runway 17/35 and stopped short of the runway. We were then on K2 east of and approximately 15 ft short of that runway. My first officer was calling ground control as I was making a 180 degree turn on K2. Ground control requested us to later contact tower by phone regarding a possible deviation. After that; we taxied via progressive taxi instructions and the flight progressed uneventfully as previously described.
