Narrative:
Flight was to jfk. Destination WX was good; no alternate required. Because of a rerte and multiple vectors for spacing en route; we did not have a lot of extra fuel as we neared our destination. I asked ZNY to relay to new york approach that we couldn't take much extra vectoring on arrival or it might put us low on fuel. My intention was to pass on a precautionary 'heads up' to approach control. I never declared minimum fuel or emergency fuel! Apparently; someone in ZNY or new york approach thought I had. The descent; approach; and landing were expeditious and otherwise uneventful; but the fire trucks were there waiting for us. Fuel on landing was 5000 pounds. I filed a report with my employer. Supervisors at ATC called my dispatcher and chief pilot to look into situation.

Title: B757 CREW REQUESTS MINIMUM DELAY ON ARR FROM N90 TRACON DUE TO FUEL STATE. N90 INTERPS THIS AS DECLARING MINIMUM FUEL.
Narrative: FLT WAS TO JFK. DEST WX WAS GOOD; NO ALTERNATE REQUIRED. BECAUSE OF A RERTE AND MULTIPLE VECTORS FOR SPACING ENRTE; WE DID NOT HAVE A LOT OF EXTRA FUEL AS WE NEARED OUR DEST. I ASKED ZNY TO RELAY TO NEW YORK APCH THAT WE COULDN'T TAKE MUCH EXTRA VECTORING ON ARR OR IT MIGHT PUT US LOW ON FUEL. MY INTENTION WAS TO PASS ON A PRECAUTIONARY 'HEADS UP' TO APCH CTL. I NEVER DECLARED MINIMUM FUEL OR EMER FUEL! APPARENTLY; SOMEONE IN ZNY OR NEW YORK APCH THOUGHT I HAD. THE DSCNT; APCH; AND LNDG WERE EXPEDITIOUS AND OTHERWISE UNEVENTFUL; BUT THE FIRE TRUCKS WERE THERE WAITING FOR US. FUEL ON LNDG WAS 5000 LBS. I FILED A RPT WITH MY EMPLOYER. SUPVRS AT ATC CALLED MY DISPATCHER AND CHIEF PLT TO LOOK INTO SITUATION.
