Narrative:
Our early wake-up; as usual; makes for less than perfect alertness. The first officer had; per the ATIS; briefed a south landing. Just as the center controller handed us to louisville approach; he told us that sdf was going north. As we were headed to ramp 3; the approach controller said to expect ILS runway 35L GS out approach. I then loaded that into the FMS. This approach to sdf runway 35L has a stepdown fix at D4.5 of 1320 ft MSL. On approach; we did not have that set and the GPWS picked that up as we descended and alerted as the ridge line became visible. I disconnected the autoplt and came back up to altitude and gave it back to the first officer who then continued a normal final approach and landing. Supplemental information from acn 707020: on downwind; I quickly briefed approach; set bugs and decision ht. Intercepted localizer 3.5 mi from crdnl; crossed crdnl on speed and configured; and set missed approach altitude instead of stepdown fix at 4.5 DME.

Title: A300 FLT CREW HAS AN ALTDEV DURING THE LOC 35L TO SDF.
Narrative: OUR EARLY WAKE-UP; AS USUAL; MAKES FOR LESS THAN PERFECT ALERTNESS. THE FO HAD; PER THE ATIS; BRIEFED A S LNDG. JUST AS THE CTR CTLR HANDED US TO LOUISVILLE APCH; HE TOLD US THAT SDF WAS GOING N. AS WE WERE HEADED TO RAMP 3; THE APCH CTLR SAID TO EXPECT ILS RWY 35L GS OUT APCH. I THEN LOADED THAT INTO THE FMS. THIS APCH TO SDF RWY 35L HAS A STEPDOWN FIX AT D4.5 OF 1320 FT MSL. ON APCH; WE DID NOT HAVE THAT SET AND THE GPWS PICKED THAT UP AS WE DSNDED AND ALERTED AS THE RIDGE LINE BECAME VISIBLE. I DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND CAME BACK UP TO ALT AND GAVE IT BACK TO THE FO WHO THEN CONTINUED A NORMAL FINAL APCH AND LNDG. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 707020: ON DOWNWIND; I QUICKLY BRIEFED APCH; SET BUGS AND DECISION HT. INTERCEPTED LOC 3.5 MI FROM CRDNL; CROSSED CRDNL ON SPD AND CONFIGURED; AND SET MISSED APCH ALT INSTEAD OF STEPDOWN FIX AT 4.5 DME.
