Narrative:
During taxi in at gate in san; and following normal guide man direction; we came to a normal stop as directed. Shortly after setting the park brake; another ramp person gave us the shutdown signal prior to connecting ground power. After observing some confusion on the ramp; I opened the side window and was informed by a ramp person we had contacted the jetbridge with the left engine. The ramp supervisor informed us that the guide man had parked us on the B757 line and the jetbridge and left engine were damaged. We informed maintenance and san operations. The taxi speed at the time of contact was normal to slow and the guide man did not indicate an emergency stop or any other abnormality. Supplemental information from acn 707123: after an uneventful flight while being guided in to gate; the guide man stopped us late; running the #1 engine pylon into the loading bridge. Receipt and guidance were normal and we found out after the event the guide man was using the B757 stop line as guidance. The stop signal was normal and we did not know anything was wrong until another ramp employee signaled for #1 engine shutdown before external power was connected. Passenger were deplaned with airstairs. Engine pylon damage looked minor due to the fact we were moving very slow as the guide man was close to giving us the stop signal.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN A319 UNDER RAMP GUIDANCE TAXIED IN TO THE JETBRIDGE WITH THE L ENG BECAUSE THE GUIDE MAN WAS USING THE B757 STOP LINE.
Narrative: DURING TAXI IN AT GATE IN SAN; AND FOLLOWING NORMAL GUIDE MAN DIRECTION; WE CAME TO A NORMAL STOP AS DIRECTED. SHORTLY AFTER SETTING THE PARK BRAKE; ANOTHER RAMP PERSON GAVE US THE SHUTDOWN SIGNAL PRIOR TO CONNECTING GND PWR. AFTER OBSERVING SOME CONFUSION ON THE RAMP; I OPENED THE SIDE WINDOW AND WAS INFORMED BY A RAMP PERSON WE HAD CONTACTED THE JETBRIDGE WITH THE L ENG. THE RAMP SUPVR INFORMED US THAT THE GUIDE MAN HAD PARKED US ON THE B757 LINE AND THE JETBRIDGE AND L ENG WERE DAMAGED. WE INFORMED MAINT AND SAN OPS. THE TAXI SPD AT THE TIME OF CONTACT WAS NORMAL TO SLOW AND THE GUIDE MAN DID NOT INDICATE AN EMER STOP OR ANY OTHER ABNORMALITY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 707123: AFTER AN UNEVENTFUL FLT WHILE BEING GUIDED IN TO GATE; THE GUIDE MAN STOPPED US LATE; RUNNING THE #1 ENG PYLON INTO THE LOADING BRIDGE. RECEIPT AND GUIDANCE WERE NORMAL AND WE FOUND OUT AFTER THE EVENT THE GUIDE MAN WAS USING THE B757 STOP LINE AS GUIDANCE. THE STOP SIGNAL WAS NORMAL AND WE DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING WAS WRONG UNTIL ANOTHER RAMP EMPLOYEE SIGNALED FOR #1 ENG SHUTDOWN BEFORE EXTERNAL PWR WAS CONNECTED. PAX WERE DEPLANED WITH AIRSTAIRS. ENG PYLON DAMAGE LOOKED MINOR DUE TO THE FACT WE WERE MOVING VERY SLOW AS THE GUIDE MAN WAS CLOSE TO GIVING US THE STOP SIGNAL.
