Narrative:

On the civet 5 arrival into lax per ATIS; runway 24R was in use. The FMS was set up accordingly. Just prior to the civet intersection; the approach controller assigned us runway 25R. As we were reprogramming the FMS for runway 25R; the aircraft turned toward coxeb intersection. The controller remarked that we were north of course and asked us to turn to a heading of 230 degrees to intercept the ILS runway 25R approach. The rest of the approach and landing were uneventful. In hindsight; I should have not accepted the last minute runway change without sufficient time to brief the crew and set up for the approach.

Title: B727-200 IS GIVEN LATE RWY CHANGE ON CIVET STAR TO LAX. UNABLE TO REPROGRAM FMS PRIOR TO COURSE CHANGE AT CIVET INTXN.

Narrative: ON THE CIVET 5 ARR INTO LAX PER ATIS; RWY 24R WAS IN USE. THE FMS WAS SET UP ACCORDINGLY. JUST PRIOR TO THE CIVET INTXN; THE APCH CTLR ASSIGNED US RWY 25R. AS WE WERE REPROGRAMMING THE FMS FOR RWY 25R; THE ACFT TURNED TOWARD COXEB INTXN. THE CTLR REMARKED THAT WE WERE N OF COURSE AND ASKED US TO TURN TO A HDG OF 230 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE ILS RWY 25R APCH. THE REST OF THE APCH AND LNDG WERE UNEVENTFUL. IN HINDSIGHT; I SHOULD HAVE NOT ACCEPTED THE LAST MINUTE RWY CHANGE WITHOUT SUFFICIENT TIME TO BRIEF THE CREW AND SET UP FOR THE APCH.
