Narrative:
We departed runway 18L on the whitewater 5. Abeam carrf intersection; ZID asked if we were flying the SID. We were; but I realized we were east of course. While at the gate; we verified the route using the flight plan page on the FMS; which showed the whitewater 5. Cadiz...bdf...cid. However; I did not verify the route using the legs page (something I normally do). After takeoff; we were cleared to decee; but it wasn't on the legs page. We put it in; but failed to notice the entire SID had dropped out. We thought we were flying the SID; but actually we were flying decee direct to cadiz. After reloading the SID; the CDI was about 1.5 dots right of course. We corrected back on course and center didn't mention it again. Predep planning is the best way to catch such mistakes; but also prior to takeoff; I will check the next intersection to make sure the FMS is set correctly.

Title: A CRJ200 CREW FAILED TO VERIFY AN FMC ROUTING AND WERE ADVISED BY ATC OF A COURSE DEV WHILE FLYING DIRECT WAYPOINTS BYPASSING INTERMEDIATE FIXES.
Narrative: WE DEPARTED RWY 18L ON THE WHITEWATER 5. ABEAM CARRF INTXN; ZID ASKED IF WE WERE FLYING THE SID. WE WERE; BUT I REALIZED WE WERE E OF COURSE. WHILE AT THE GATE; WE VERIFIED THE RTE USING THE FLT PLAN PAGE ON THE FMS; WHICH SHOWED THE WHITEWATER 5. CADIZ...BDF...CID. HOWEVER; I DID NOT VERIFY THE RTE USING THE LEGS PAGE (SOMETHING I NORMALLY DO). AFTER TKOF; WE WERE CLRED TO DECEE; BUT IT WASN'T ON THE LEGS PAGE. WE PUT IT IN; BUT FAILED TO NOTICE THE ENTIRE SID HAD DROPPED OUT. WE THOUGHT WE WERE FLYING THE SID; BUT ACTUALLY WE WERE FLYING DECEE DIRECT TO CADIZ. AFTER RELOADING THE SID; THE CDI WAS ABOUT 1.5 DOTS R OF COURSE. WE CORRECTED BACK ON COURSE AND CTR DIDN'T MENTION IT AGAIN. PREDEP PLANNING IS THE BEST WAY TO CATCH SUCH MISTAKES; BUT ALSO PRIOR TO TKOF; I WILL CHK THE NEXT INTXN TO MAKE SURE THE FMS IS SET CORRECTLY.
