Narrative:
We departed runway 17R at dfw on heading 160 degrees. There was WX in the area and through approximately 10000 ft we started deviating around it with a clearance to climb to 17000 ft. The frequency was busy; but we were authority/authorized for all the deviations. Climbing through about 11300 ft; ATC issued us an altitude of 11000 ft; which we immediately began the descent for. Shortly after we were cleared direct to a fix not on our flight plan. After a short delay to load the fix; we proceeded direct to it. We did not receive any TCAS alerts; nor did we visually identify any traffic. ZHU gave us a phone number to call; which was our first indication that anything abnormal had occurred. The captain called and they didn't really say anything about what they wanted. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the telephone call to dfw TRACON did not answer any questions as to what actually occurred.

Narrative: WE DEPARTED RWY 17R AT DFW ON HDG 160 DEGS. THERE WAS WX IN THE AREA AND THROUGH APPROX 10000 FT WE STARTED DEVIATING AROUND IT WITH A CLRNC TO CLB TO 17000 FT. THE FREQ WAS BUSY; BUT WE WERE AUTH FOR ALL THE DEVS. CLBING THROUGH ABOUT 11300 FT; ATC ISSUED US AN ALT OF 11000 FT; WHICH WE IMMEDIATELY BEGAN THE DSCNT FOR. SHORTLY AFTER WE WERE CLRED DIRECT TO A FIX NOT ON OUR FLT PLAN. AFTER A SHORT DELAY TO LOAD THE FIX; WE PROCEEDED DIRECT TO IT. WE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY TCAS ALERTS; NOR DID WE VISUALLY IDENT ANY TFC.
