Narrative:
After reporting position for landing at ZZZ; pilot noticed loss of oil pressure; zero psi. The engine had 6 hours on it after annual and the pilot; knowing that the engine has a ball and spring to control oil pressure thought that perhaps a metal particle from the rings had lodged between the ball and the seat; which would cause a loss of oil pressure. In an attempt to dislodge such a particle or other obstruction; the pilot rolled inverted; then upright; and pulled and pushed several G's; without first performing a 360 degree turn to clear the area; and within 4 mi from a victor airway. This did not resolve the oil pressure problem and an emergency was called to ZZZ tower. The pilot landed at ZZZ1; but overran the end of the runway due to lack of propeller/engine braking which is normally present on this aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A SINGLE ENG AEROBATIC ACFT LOST OIL PRESSURE. PLT SHUT DOWN THE ENG AND LANDED AT THE ONLY ARPT WITHIN GLIDING RANGE; OVERRUNNING THE END OF THE RWY.
Narrative: AFTER RPTING POS FOR LNDG AT ZZZ; PLT NOTICED LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE; ZERO PSI. THE ENG HAD 6 HRS ON IT AFTER ANNUAL AND THE PLT; KNOWING THAT THE ENG HAS A BALL AND SPRING TO CTL OIL PRESSURE THOUGHT THAT PERHAPS A METAL PARTICLE FROM THE RINGS HAD LODGED BTWN THE BALL AND THE SEAT; WHICH WOULD CAUSE A LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE. IN AN ATTEMPT TO DISLODGE SUCH A PARTICLE OR OTHER OBSTRUCTION; THE PLT ROLLED INVERTED; THEN UPRIGHT; AND PULLED AND PUSHED SEVERAL G'S; WITHOUT FIRST PERFORMING A 360 DEG TURN TO CLR THE AREA; AND WITHIN 4 MI FROM A VICTOR AIRWAY. THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE OIL PRESSURE PROB AND AN EMER WAS CALLED TO ZZZ TWR. THE PLT LANDED AT ZZZ1; BUT OVERRAN THE END OF THE RWY DUE TO LACK OF PROP/ENG BRAKING WHICH IS NORMALLY PRESENT ON THIS ACFT.
