Narrative:

After receiving takeoff clearance; the tower issued this instruction: 'at the marker; fly heading 070 degrees.' nowhere on the SID was there any mention of such a possible clearance. No marker was specified; just 'the marker.' all of the information available; eg; 10-7; 10-8 pages; pre departure clearance; ATIS; and a sign at the departure end of the runway; was emphatic about flying the RNAV sids exactly. Nothing warned us of using a marker on departure. The tower did not prepare us in advance for a change to our pre departure clearance.
