Narrative:
On the teb 5 departure; takeoff runway 24 climb to 1500 ft left turn 280 degree heading; maintain 1500 ft until 4.5 DME teb VOR; then climb to 2000 ft. I only maintained 1500 ft until about the 3.0 DME of the teb VOR on a 280 degree heading and was at 2000 ft -- about 1-2 mi early but the VOR 250 degree radial showed 3.2 DME when ATC said to look at the departure.
