Narrative:
We were assigned the holtz 7 RNAV departure off runway 25R at lax. SID entered and waypoints verified in FMS. After rotation; departure cleared us direct to pevee and resume the departure. We mistakenly selected and executed direct to the holtz waypoint. With autoplt already selected; aircraft commenced l-hand turn as we expected it to do. Departure called us just about the time we realized the aircraft had turned through the heading to pevee. We were given a vector back towards pevee and resumed the departure without further incident.
