Narrative:
An improper paperwork error occurred on an inbound ron (routine overnight check) aircraft which reported a bird strike on approach. Inspection was performed per maintenance manual and the only evidence of bird strike was found in the #1 engine. The problem is; I signed off the discrepancy as a time limit deferred with reference to maintenance manual for borescope inspection due within 10 cycles as a maintenance note. I failed to sign off the aircraft log page in accordance with the maintenance procedures manual. I should have been more knowledgeable with the maintenance procedures manual and signed off the original log discrepancy stating that the inspection was performed per maintenance manual with no damage found. Then I should have made a new write-up against the #1 engine with a time deferred item signoff for further inspection.

Narrative: AN IMPROPER PAPERWORK ERROR OCCURRED ON AN INBOUND RON (ROUTINE OVERNIGHT CHK) ACFT WHICH RPTED A BIRD STRIKE ON APCH. INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED PER MAINT MANUAL AND THE ONLY EVIDENCE OF BIRD STRIKE WAS FOUND IN THE #1 ENG. THE PROB IS; I SIGNED OFF THE DISCREPANCY AS A TIME LIMIT DEFERRED WITH REF TO MAINT MANUAL FOR BORESCOPE INSPECTION DUE WITHIN 10 CYCLES AS A MAINT NOTE. I FAILED TO SIGN OFF THE ACFT LOG PAGE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MAINT PROCS MANUAL. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE WITH THE MAINT PROCS MANUAL AND SIGNED OFF THE ORIGINAL LOG DISCREPANCY STATING THAT THE INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED PER MAINT MANUAL WITH NO DAMAGE FOUND. THEN I SHOULD HAVE MADE A NEW WRITE-UP AGAINST THE #1 ENG WITH A TIME DEFERRED ITEM SIGNOFF FOR FURTHER INSPECTION.
