Narrative:
While at cruise altitude of 9000 ft MSL from mgw VOR to ihd VOR; pilot was informed by ATC of large WX radar returns directly in flight path. Pilot requested heading change to east to avoid this WX. Shortly afterwards; aircraft encountered moderate turbulence and precipitation and aircraft began to accrete light to moderate rime ice. Shortly thereafter; engine experienced an uncommanded temporary reduction in power followed soon after by an uncontrolled descent due to severe turbulence. Subsequent similar events led to pilot requesting an immediate descent and turn to the south. Aircraft encountered VFR conditions at 3700-4000 ft MSL. No further engine events occurred but aircraft was unable to climb above 4500 ft MSL. Aircraft continued in VFR conditions to destination and landed without incident.

Title: PLT OF C182 ENCOUNTERS WX; ICING; PWR LOSS AND TURB ENRTE IFR. MAKES PARTIALLY CTLED DSCNT TO VMC.
Narrative: WHILE AT CRUISE ALT OF 9000 FT MSL FROM MGW VOR TO IHD VOR; PLT WAS INFORMED BY ATC OF LARGE WX RADAR RETURNS DIRECTLY IN FLT PATH. PLT REQUESTED HDG CHANGE TO E TO AVOID THIS WX. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS; ACFT ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TURB AND PRECIP AND ACFT BEGAN TO ACCRETE LIGHT TO MODERATE RIME ICE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER; ENG EXPERIENCED AN UNCOMMANDED TEMPORARY REDUCTION IN PWR FOLLOWED SOON AFTER BY AN UNCTLED DSCNT DUE TO SEVERE TURB. SUBSEQUENT SIMILAR EVENTS LED TO PLT REQUESTING AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT AND TURN TO THE S. ACFT ENCOUNTERED VFR CONDITIONS AT 3700-4000 FT MSL. NO FURTHER ENG EVENTS OCCURRED BUT ACFT WAS UNABLE TO CLB ABOVE 4500 FT MSL. ACFT CONTINUED IN VFR CONDITIONS TO DEST AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT.
