Narrative:
This statement is an effort to clarify the events leading up to the creation of a flight maintenance report item and termination logbook of the item. I received call from the engine shop lead technician. He stated that one of the mechanic assisting in the install of the r-hand engine was not completely certain of the installation of some cotter pins retaining some engine mount hardware. I assured the lead technician that I would address this issue as my highest priority and would not allow the aircraft to fly another leg until we were certain of a sound/airworthy engine installation. I then entered the flight maintenance item and contacted the airline's maintenance mechanic on call. The same mechanic called back with a statement that the engine hardware was properly installed and required no mechanical action on his part. I wanted to be certain that the mechanic installed the hardware properly and the mechanic did not perform the installation of the cotter pins in concern. I then asked the mechanic if he installed any hardware such as cotter pins. The mechanic replied: 'no.' at that point I was assured of a sound installation of the engine and asked the mechanic to fact the item as requested in the action to be taken. The mechanic informed me that he was unable to do so at that time but would do so the following morning. When the item was not logged; I tried to contact the mechanic to resolve the issue. At the end of the day I remembered; at the last min; to log the item with the information received from the mechanic. This logbook entry was performed on another maintenance controller's computer (with his consent) due to the fact that I had already signed out and turned my work area over to that maintenance controller. Additionally; the initial call was received by me while aircraft was on a flight. The flight maintenance report item was never deferred and the requested verification was performed immediately upon landing on the same day.

Title: A B757-200 ENG SHOP LEAD TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE RPTR OF POSSIBLE ENG MOUNT MISSING COTTER KEYS. RPTR ENTERED ITEM FOR INSPECTION AT FLT TERMINATION.
Narrative: THIS STATEMENT IS AN EFFORT TO CLARIFY THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE CREATION OF A FLT MAINT RPT ITEM AND TERMINATION LOGBOOK OF THE ITEM. I RECEIVED CALL FROM THE ENG SHOP LEAD TECHNICIAN. HE STATED THAT ONE OF THE MECH ASSISTING IN THE INSTALL OF THE R-HAND ENG WAS NOT COMPLETELY CERTAIN OF THE INSTALLATION OF SOME COTTER PINS RETAINING SOME ENG MOUNT HARDWARE. I ASSURED THE LEAD TECHNICIAN THAT I WOULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS MY HIGHEST PRIORITY AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE ACFT TO FLY ANOTHER LEG UNTIL WE WERE CERTAIN OF A SOUND/AIRWORTHY ENG INSTALLATION. I THEN ENTERED THE FLT MAINT ITEM AND CONTACTED THE AIRLINE'S MAINT MECH ON CALL. THE SAME MECH CALLED BACK WITH A STATEMENT THAT THE ENG HARDWARE WAS PROPERLY INSTALLED AND REQUIRED NO MECHANICAL ACTION ON HIS PART. I WANTED TO BE CERTAIN THAT THE MECH INSTALLED THE HARDWARE PROPERLY AND THE MECH DID NOT PERFORM THE INSTALLATION OF THE COTTER PINS IN CONCERN. I THEN ASKED THE MECH IF HE INSTALLED ANY HARDWARE SUCH AS COTTER PINS. THE MECH REPLIED: 'NO.' AT THAT POINT I WAS ASSURED OF A SOUND INSTALLATION OF THE ENG AND ASKED THE MECH TO FACT THE ITEM AS REQUESTED IN THE ACTION TO BE TAKEN. THE MECH INFORMED ME THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO DO SO AT THAT TIME BUT WOULD DO SO THE FOLLOWING MORNING. WHEN THE ITEM WAS NOT LOGGED; I TRIED TO CONTACT THE MECH TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. AT THE END OF THE DAY I REMEMBERED; AT THE LAST MIN; TO LOG THE ITEM WITH THE INFO RECEIVED FROM THE MECH. THIS LOGBOOK ENTRY WAS PERFORMED ON ANOTHER MAINT CTLR'S COMPUTER (WITH HIS CONSENT) DUE TO THE FACT THAT I HAD ALREADY SIGNED OUT AND TURNED MY WORK AREA OVER TO THAT MAINT CTLR. ADDITIONALLY; THE INITIAL CALL WAS RECEIVED BY ME WHILE ACFT WAS ON A FLT. THE FLT MAINT RPT ITEM WAS NEVER DEFERRED AND THE REQUESTED VERIFICATION WAS PERFORMED IMMEDIATELY UPON LNDG ON THE SAME DAY.
