Narrative:
XF00 I was contacted by crew desk for an XJ00 deadhead. My short call began at XA00 that morning. I notified them I would need the required 4 hours call out. Crew desk attempted to mandate that I make the XJ00 deadhead. It turns out they were concerned with my duty day and delays into lga of 3+ hours. They said there was an XK00 flight ZZZ lga but to keep me legal they needed to show on my trip the XJ00 pm so they wanted me to accept an ok to deviate and then be responsible on my own for getting to lga. I refused and the duty manager intervened and booked me on the appropriate flight. I don't believe it is legal of the crew desk to attempt to make the trip legal on paper. Second issue same day; ZZZ lga was delayed 3 hours 40 mins putting me close to the 16 hour FAA duty day limitation. Short call began at XA00 am local and rest was never reset. I contacted the duty manager to discuss and to give a heads up that if the flow times were to hold we will have a problem with the duty day. I was told over the course of an hour from 2 crew schedulers; 2 crew desk supervisors; and 2 duty mgrs that I was not considered on duty at the beginning of the short call either for contractual duty day (14 hours actual) or FAA duty day (16 hours actual). I attempted to explain in detail why the duty manager was incorrect and was told not only that I was never on duty period until my report time at airport. What concerns me here is the crew desk supervisors and crew desk all knew there was a duty issue as reason why tried to pressure me into an earlier deadhead but were instructing the duty mgrs no duty day began at XA00 am. At the time that I called the duty manager with the projected wheels up I was looking at a 16:33 hour duty day -- I had duty manager give me an order to fly but was willing to walk off as was not going to knowingly violate far duty day. Fortunately the flow time was lessened and I ended up with a 15 hour duty day. However the duty mgrs are obviously not educated on short call assignments -- an emphasis needs to be placed on the fact that when the short call begins the previous 9 hours is the far rest (another item the duty manager said I was incorrect on) and you are on duty throughout the short call assignment unless the crew desk resets far 9 hour rest. Right now duty manager are willing to give an order to fly to a pilot which would exceed 16 hours actual.

Title: B757 CONCERNED WITH EXCEEDING LENGTH OF FAR'S AUTH DUTY DAY.
Narrative: XF00 I WAS CONTACTED BY CREW DESK FOR AN XJ00 DEADHEAD. MY SHORT CALL BEGAN AT XA00 THAT MORNING. I NOTIFIED THEM I WOULD NEED THE REQUIRED 4 HRS CALL OUT. CREW DESK ATTEMPTED TO MANDATE THAT I MAKE THE XJ00 DEADHEAD. IT TURNS OUT THEY WERE CONCERNED WITH MY DUTY DAY AND DELAYS INTO LGA OF 3+ HRS. THEY SAID THERE WAS AN XK00 FLT ZZZ LGA BUT TO KEEP ME LEGAL THEY NEEDED TO SHOW ON MY TRIP THE XJ00 PM SO THEY WANTED ME TO ACCEPT AN OK TO DEVIATE AND THEN BE RESPONSIBLE ON MY OWN FOR GETTING TO LGA. I REFUSED AND THE DUTY MGR INTERVENED AND BOOKED ME ON THE APPROPRIATE FLT. I DON'T BELIEVE IT IS LEGAL OF THE CREW DESK TO ATTEMPT TO MAKE THE TRIP LEGAL ON PAPER. SECOND ISSUE SAME DAY; ZZZ LGA WAS DELAYED 3 HRS 40 MINS PUTTING ME CLOSE TO THE 16 HR FAA DUTY DAY LIMITATION. SHORT CALL BEGAN AT XA00 AM LCL AND REST WAS NEVER RESET. I CONTACTED THE DUTY MGR TO DISCUSS AND TO GIVE A HEADS UP THAT IF THE FLOW TIMES WERE TO HOLD WE WILL HAVE A PROB WITH THE DUTY DAY. I WAS TOLD OVER THE COURSE OF AN HR FROM 2 CREW SCHEDULERS; 2 CREW DESK SUPVRS; AND 2 DUTY MGRS THAT I WAS NOT CONSIDERED ON DUTY AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SHORT CALL EITHER FOR CONTRACTUAL DUTY DAY (14 HRS ACTUAL) OR FAA DUTY DAY (16 HRS ACTUAL). I ATTEMPTED TO EXPLAIN IN DETAIL WHY THE DUTY MGR WAS INCORRECT AND WAS TOLD NOT ONLY THAT I WAS NEVER ON DUTY PERIOD UNTIL MY RPT TIME AT ARPT. WHAT CONCERNS ME HERE IS THE CREW DESK SUPVRS AND CREW DESK ALL KNEW THERE WAS A DUTY ISSUE AS REASON WHY TRIED TO PRESSURE ME INTO AN EARLIER DEADHEAD BUT WERE INSTRUCTING THE DUTY MGRS NO DUTY DAY BEGAN AT XA00 AM. AT THE TIME THAT I CALLED THE DUTY MGR WITH THE PROJECTED WHEELS UP I WAS LOOKING AT A 16:33 HR DUTY DAY -- I HAD DUTY MGR GIVE ME AN ORDER TO FLY BUT WAS WILLING TO WALK OFF AS WAS NOT GOING TO KNOWINGLY VIOLATE FAR DUTY DAY. FORTUNATELY THE FLOW TIME WAS LESSENED AND I ENDED UP WITH A 15 HR DUTY DAY. HOWEVER THE DUTY MGRS ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT EDUCATED ON SHORT CALL ASSIGNMENTS -- AN EMPHASIS NEEDS TO BE PLACED ON THE FACT THAT WHEN THE SHORT CALL BEGINS THE PREVIOUS 9 HRS IS THE FAR REST (ANOTHER ITEM THE DUTY MGR SAID I WAS INCORRECT ON) AND YOU ARE ON DUTY THROUGHOUT THE SHORT CALL ASSIGNMENT UNLESS THE CREW DESK RESETS FAR 9 HR REST. RIGHT NOW DUTY MGR ARE WILLING TO GIVE AN ORDER TO FLY TO A PLT WHICH WOULD EXCEED 16 HRS ACTUAL.
