Narrative:

We were climbing through FL240 when the left engine egt went into the amber band for approximately 2 seconds. The left N1; N2; and N3 also surged to follow the egt. This condition continued 4 more times while climbing through FL260. We declared an emergency and completed the engine overheat checklist. We also completed the overweight checklist; en route to ZZZ2. Touchdown was smooth and at a speed of 141 KTS. The vsi was approximately 400 ft. All engine indications were normal during descent; approach; and landing. Taxi back to gate was uneventful.
