Narrative:

Departed at XA30 am after filling aircraft with fuel and oil on a pleasure trip. After approximately 20 mins into flight engine started to vibrate violently. At the time of the occurrence the owner of the airplane was PIC. When the incident occurred I took control of the aircraft and made a successful off field landing. There were no injuries and damage to aircraft was to propeller; engine and nose gear. I took control of aircraft as I was a higher time pilot with more experience in type. After discussion with mechanic who maintains aircraft he believes it to be a valve failure. Prevention of reoccurrence would be not to fly engines past tbo (time before overhaul).
