Narrative:
Current ATIS at taxi from the gate in atl showed departure runways 9L and 8L. Atl chart showed runway 8R-26L closed. At first contact with ground he said taxi to runway 26 and I thought he said right. As I taxied to the runway the first officer was busy getting runway data and loading the FMC with the runway change. En route to runway 26R I crossed the end of runway 26L. The controller asked where we were going. We said the right; he said he cleared us to the left. We told him according to the chart the runway was closed. Between the ATIS showing the runway inactive and the chart showing it closed I assumed it was. I called ZTL he said there was no conflict and didn't have a problem with the incursion. They just wanted me to pass on to flight office to get new and accurate atl chart to the pilots.
